Exhibition in the former studio of Zbigniew Dlubak

‘Inside’ is a site-specific exhibition, taking place from 5th until 13th June, in the former studio of Zbigniew Dlubak in Pulawska 24a. The exhibition features photographs from the ‘Existences’ series – intimate, minimalist views of objects that constituted the setting of the artist’s everyday life. Most of them were actually taken in the mid-1950s, at the artist’s apartment-cum-studio in Warsaw’s Mokotow district. Owing to the consent of the condominium, the space will be open to visitors for a week.

The opening on the 5th of June will be part of ‘Liberating Space’, an event organized by Nowy Teatr and History Meeting House. Accompanying events include the reading of Miron Białoszewski’s novel ‘Chamowo’ performed by Zygmunt Malanowicz (10th of June, in collaboration with Nowy Teatr), photographic workshops (6th and 12th of June), urban game (13th of June, in collaboration with the Sluzew House of Culture). Catalogue in Polish and English will be available for purchase throughout the exhibition.

The exhibition will be on view from 5th until 13th of June

Pulawska 24a (attic, 6th floor)
admission to the exhibition and all accompanying events is free

The undertaking organized by the Archeology of Photography Foundation aims to both present the photographs taken in the building in Pulawska 24a in their actual context, as well as to raise the awareness concerning the artist’s studio itself. The exhibition will feature several dozen of black-and-white photographs depicting the interior of the studio at the time it was used by Zbigniew Dlubak. The prints capture the artist’s immediate surrounding – ordinary items, everyday disorder, elements of the attic, such as window frame or radiator, photographed in a manner that conjures up an aura of uniqueness, creating a dense tale of the seemingly banal reality.
The exhibition will close with a multimedia presentation of photographs of the Mokotow district taken by Zbigniew Dlubak, offering an opportunity to go beyond the studio space, into the neighborhood that served as home and inspiration to the artist.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue in Polish and English with fragments of the short story ‘Central Heating’ by Zbigniew Dlubak and a text by Agata Pietrasik, an emerging Polish art critic.see more photographs>>>
